Will Mikko Repeat at the 2010 CrossFit Games? – CrossFit fans weigh in

Reminder: FuncThat.com will be providing CrossFit Games Results for the 2010 CrossFit Games here on our website and via our Twitter feed!

CrossFit HQ recently ran a Facebook poll asking fans to weigh in on whether Mikko Salo would be able to repeat his 2009 CrossFit Games win at the 2010 Games. The 178 voters were split almost evenly with 91 voters (51%) suggesting a repeat and 87 voters (49%) leaning towards a new champ.

The poll results are interesting for a number of reasons.  Based on the format of the poll question Salo should be a significant underdog.  The poll was phrased as “Will Mikko Salo repeat as CrossFit Games Champion this year?”.  All voters supporting an alternate champion would be aggregated together in the “No” category while only those supporting Salo would be included as “Yes” votes.  Statistically, a “No” vote would be much more likely.

Additionally, because Salo did not need to compete in sectional or regional competitions his current level of fitness is somewhat cloaked in mystery.  Although his profile on the CrossFit Games 2010 website indicates he remains a elite competitor he has not faced off in a public competition since the 2009 CrossFit Games.

With these factors in mind why does Mikko fare so well?
