CrossFit Games 2010 – Update Affiliate WOD 2

Affiliate WOD 2 – Heat 4 is in progress.  Although the WOD itself is not particularly complicated figuring out the correct strategy may play a decisive role.  The workout is as follows:

Event 2a
For reps:
1 minute max reps deadlift (264/173 lb.)
Rest 1 minute
1 minute max reps pistols
Rest 1 minute
1 minute max calories row


Team Event 2b
Establish a 1RM shoulder-to-overhead for each athlete, in 12 minutes from the start of Event 2a.At first blush teams that went with the heavier stronger athletes would seem to have a marked advantage in most of the exercises with the exception of the pistols (some competitors in the early heat chose to forgo the pistols altogether and use it as an extended rest).

FuncThat opinion: Establishing a max on an overhead lift for six athletes in six minutes or less in close quarters seems likely to lead to an injury.  So far so good though although there have been a number of close calls.
