Can You Bring A Salad? – Newsletter #2

1. Fred and Wilma Flintstone’s Cookbook
This free downloadable cookbook contains recipes from all the stars of the paleo world.Among the one’s I’m planning to try: Mark Sisson’s Slow Cooker Pork Stuffed Peppers and Robb Wolf’s Rosemary Citrus Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes. Our family is 100% paleo (80% of the time) so we’ll let you know which we like in a future newsletter.
2. Roll On
Will a few minutes on the foam roller before you workout improve your performance? Olympic lifting coach Greg Everett of Catalyst Athletics explains why his athletes roll first and the specific areas to target to improve performance. Bonus: Everett doesn’t mince words. Perhaps the best two sentences I’ve read in awhile are in this article: “I’m confident that at least a few readers will know of some research that shows that pre-workout foam rolling causes an immediate 100 kg reduction in squatting strength and increases the likelihood of contracting gonorrhea by 300%, so let me just assure you right now: I don’t care…Practical experience is infinitely more valuable to me than research when it comes to these kinds of subjects.”
3. How’s The Air Up There?
Is there a disadvantage to being a tall CrossFitter? StrongFirst posted an in depth article explaining the challenges faced by those with long limbs (including having to get things off the top shelf for the rest of us). The post also discusses a few considerations for coaches to keep in mind.
4. Get Your Game(s) On
CrossFit HQ went with a classic when they put out a quick video with the first announced workout for the 2015 CrossFit Games. Good old Murph (a FuncThat favorite). Speculation began immediately on how fast the Games competitors might be able to knock this one out and questions arose on whether there might be some sort of twist added to make Murph a bit spicier for the world’s top athletes..
5. Can you bring a salad?
Around here summer means more get togethers with the inevitable “Just bring something easy, like a salad…”. Unless, you’re talking about a bunch of iceberg dunked in ranch there’s nothing easy about a salad. Until, behold: Kale Salad With Lemon and Parmesan! This is a family favorite which consistently leads to an empty salad bowl and requests for a recipe which is embarrassingly simple. Enjoy!
Enjoy,
